Guilty Pleasure..... TV

If I have just one guilty pleasure it has to be watching TV before bed.   I have so many favorite shows such as Revenge, The Good Wife, Blue Bloods, Downton Abbey,  and Friday Night Lights,  but the show Scandal has to be my top pick right now.  The shows creator Shondra Rhimes doesn't disappoint her fans at all.  I love a story line that has a bit of mystery that keeps you coming back, some romance and then Olivia (Kerry Washington) the main character is such a strong female character.  Olivia is a "fixer" yet her own life is a bit of a mess; I guess you could call an affair with the president a messy situation. I also like how the show spends a lot of time in the "White House" you get to see what it may be like, even the first lady's closet made it into a scene. If you don't watch this show already you really must.  I watched the entire first season on Netflix over Christmas break and am now hooked.  I hope this show sticks around for a very long time.

Exploring Wabi Sabi - Mariko Sumioka Jewelry

Mariko Sumioka combines aspects of Japanese
architecture with the Zen concept of Wabi Sabi
to produce intriguing, colorful jewelry.

Inspired by temple architecture
 (especially rooftop shingles)
this artist works with materials like bamboo,
gold, silver, copper and pearls.  She explores textures
and colors using techniques like enameling,
soldering and patination to achieve a delicate blend of
wabi sabi and urban sophistication.

The distinctive aesthetic of wabi sabi (finding
 beauty in the impermanence, imperfection
and incompleteness of all things), is
precisely what attracts me to her work.

Here's an example of bamboo with pearls.
Reminds me of ice crystals.

This artist has also collaborated on several projects with
fashion designers as seen with these unique
bangles and neckpiece.
I love the patination on the bangles.

Micro-Macramé - Ifat Nesher Jewelry

Micro-macramé jewelry created
by Ifat Nesher is made with
pure linen or waxed cotton threads,
combined with all sorts of wonderful things like
Murano glass from Venice,
terra-cotta, coral,
 seashells and driftwood.

She uses macramé techniques and multicolored threads
to create intricate, freeform woven pieces with
striking patterns and beautiful textures.

Some designs are light, delicate and feathery.
Others are rugged and suggestive of shipwrecked netting.
 Each is handmade and
no two pieces are exactly alike.

 Sometimes photographs aren't enough to
showcase the work and in my opinion her
imaginative designs seem to come to life,
and are best appreciated, when worn.

Beading With Love - Zoya Gutina Jewelry

Beaded necklaces by Zoya Gutina are
elegant masterpieces of beautiful design, expert technique
and exquisite color combinations.

Richly embellished with multiple layers of beads
each creation is a lush, dense, three-dimensional
object of beauty.

Each piece is obviously a
work of love and devotion.

The next one reminds me of snow and ice crystals
found while on a winter's walk.

Of her creative inspiration, Zoya says,
"Inspiration for my designs come to me night and day.

At night, when I close my eyes, fantastic colors

and forms appear before me.  Often, I cannot even

find beads or stones equal to these glorious visions.

During the day, my inspiration comes from the

trees and flowers of spring,  frozen geometry of winter,

and the beautiful rise and set of the sun."

Silly Boys at the DIA....

Will and his Tiger Cubs took a trip to the Detroit Institute of Arts.  In this picture you can see they finally found something that they could touch.  I am pretty sure they were tired of hearing, Do Not Touch that.  They mostly giggled at some of the art work, boys will be boys.  It was a fun afternoon for all, parents included.

Beautiful new textures for 2013
These are my latest textured and hand gilded ceramic switch plate covers. Get rid of those sad, plain plates, and do your walls a favor. The smallest touches can make a big difference to the look of any room. Please request your size and color requirements to geometals@aol.com

Click on any of the images to see more detail.

Wide paisley texture with bronze and copper. Now look at it in blue...

Royal blue with indigo and teal oxides

"Elm Grove"  - deeply etched stamping gilded with 4 different oxides
"Sea Creatures" - this piece shimmers from green all the way to deep blue. The surface has a slight wave that mimics water.

Here is "Sea Creatures" done in bronze, titanium, copper, and brass oxides.
Choose the configuration that you need, then your color preferences, and then scroll through the posts on this site to find the texture(s) you like. It`s that easy. Your art plate will be made just for you!

Tons of texture work done on this one. Silver oxide was gilded over the textured surface. It goes beyond its function and is really more a piece of art that can stand alone.

"Texture Collage" This oversize plate ( 5 inches long by 3.5" wide) is available in any texture or color combo shown on this site.

This textured collage shimmers between deep teal all the way to turquoise and indigo. The design is called "Loving the Blues".
"Double Burst" with titanium oxides (the silvery green), copper, brass, and bronze. This one really pops!

Mini Lutron/Decora Gallery: (added 11/9/13)

Since there have been so many requests for the Lutron/GCFI switch plates, Geometals/Metro Decor has been hard at work to make sure these are richly textured too.
"Pebbles" a fun texture

"Random Spirals" with silver oxide
"Fleur de Lis" with vivid teal and azure
"Random Spirals" in shades of aqua, teal, and deep blue
"Braided" gilded with deep bronze and copper oxides

"Texture Collage" This triple Lutron piece has a medley of rich textures and oxides. Available in any size.

"Sunburst"  - lovely in any room and can be done in other colors.
"Fiddle Head Fern" with lots of layers of mixed oxides.

"Ancient Tiles" with titanium, copper, & bronze oxides.

"Braided" in black/silver. This piece has a striking contrast. Bye bye, plastic and generic plate covers!

"Ancient Tiles" in the black/silver combo

Bold textures and oxides and this textured collage

Gorgeous turquoise and aqua shimmer in this stamped filigree piece.

"Multi Swirls" - There`s gilding above and below the surface creating wonderful depth and contrasts.

"Cobblestones" - this arty contemporary piece was gilded in lovely silver oxide. As with all the other textures/colors, they can be made in any size or combination.

Oh so shimmery textured collage. This piece combines 5 different metal oxides and is a departure from the generic plastic Decora covers available in the big box chain stores.

This texture collage is an example of a Decora combo #3 & #4 switch plate - depending on which way it`s needed.
