Diamond Dressing - Useful Industrial Process

Diamonds are used diversely in industries for several processes besides employing them for making jewelry. It is used as diamond dressing tool for sharpening industrial apparatus and to provide a sharp cut to any element. Dressing generally refers to a process in which grinding wheels are used for crushing diamonds particles into pieces or for giving them any specific shape. Using grinding wheels for cutting and sharpening works makes this job easy enough to perform instantly without manual labor. However, to provide a specific cut to any element, it is important to employ experts for this job. These dressers generally come in four different types, out of which two are most famous. Following are the types of the dressers used for cutting purposes.

Single pointMultiplepointMultipointmultigrainMultiple point molegrain

Single point and multiple point dressers are the two diversely used dresser tool in industries. Besides providing any specific cut to an element, it is also used for finishing and smoothening any surface on which it is applied. Such dressers commonly consist of an abrasive, a single point diamond dresser, and some of the other tools. Besides the four dressers mentioned above, various other cutting tools also come under this category. Dressing sticks, diamond crush rolls, star dressers are some of the important ones. Moreover, dressing sticks are made from hard material most commonly silicon carbide. Star dresser on the other hand, are long handled tool that has single diamond mounted at the top of the tool. Besides this, crush rolls are made by steel or tungsten. It is a high-speed grinding wheel used for dressing purposes. No doubt, all the devices mentioned above are of great industrial use; however, some disadvantages are also there. A crush roll cannot be adjusted as per requirement. It is needed to be replaced every time the cutting profile is changed.

Besides this, diamond grit is also used for precise application when any tool is needed to be dressed specifically. Grits play an important role to determine the number of carats a diamond has. The fine the carat is, the more the number of carats are there in the diamond. Moreover, grits can improve the sharpening abilities of different tools. Hence, it is generally preferred over other devices. Moreover, any cut from such a devices is free from visible impurities or errors. Such devices have good strength and thermal capacity.

Og and Nunu and a Loose Diamond

Og and Nunu had been giving each other the eye for a while now. Og courted Nunu with a special set of grunts specifically saved for her. As she fashioned dressings made out of the hides of deer and bear, he pounded rocks all day trying to make a wheel. They would smile at each other over the course of the day in the most flirtatious of cave-dweller ways. Og pounded a rock so hard one day that a very shiny loose diamond tumbled out of the middle. He did not know it was a diamond. He just knew it was the most sparkly thing he had ever seen and it was almost as beautiful as Nunu was in his eyes.

He eyed this stone and then looked at Nunu's beaten up hands with dirty fingernails. He thought if he gave her this stone and she could wear it on her hand, everyone would know that Nunu belonged to Og and no one else would be allowed to pull her around by her hair except him. He also thought it would make her hands look very pretty and sparkly.

Og found the longest and strongest piece of grass he could find. After discovering that his loose stone was very hard and not able to be worn down at all, he wrapped the grass tightly around the diamond until it was securely in place. He tied the ends of the grass together in a circle so that it could be safely placed on her finger.

As he approached Nunu, Og stumbled on a piece of wood, causing him to fall down on one knee directly in front of her. As he looked up at her, he held the ring he had made in his outstretched hand while she looked down at him smiling. He said the following:

"Me Og. You....Og's?"

He handed her the ring. Nunu understood its purpose and placed it on her finger. She replied back, "Me Nunu. Me.....Og's."

They smiled at each other and she presented him with a brand new bear hide outfit. She grabbed her hair and handed it to him and he gently pulled her along to his cave to celebrate their new love. One little loose diamond started it all. The rest, as they say, is history.

Industrial Application of Diamond Dressers

Diamonds are most popular as expensive jewelry stones. Besides making jewelry out of this precious stone, it is used extensively in industries in the form of diamond dressers. A dresser is used for grinding, cutting, and sharpening works. Versatility offered by these instruments makes it a favorite choice than other counterparts available in the industry. Dresser tool is made with the type diamonds that do not match up to the specification to be employed as a jewel stone. The diamond when mined comes out as a raw material. These raw stones are checked if they are matching up to the desired specification to be employed in jewelry or not? In case they fail to match the specifications, they are utilized as diamond dressing tools. These tools are further used for sharpening metallic surfaces. Moreover, they are also employed for polishing the surface of different material like ceramic glass.

Diamond is used in diverse forms in industry. As they are generally used for precise applications; hence, they are employed in the form of diamond paste. This paste is filled in syringe to use it precisely in different works. The paste is made with powdered or finely ground particles of diamond using a liquid medium, which is usually water based. It is made available in bottles for easy spraying on surfaces. To enable a more precise application, it is also available in syringes. The paste is extremely versatile and can be used on a wide range of surfaces including glass and ceramic surfaces. The diamond paste is easy to use and so is in high demand among industries. The companies offering it use high quality raw materials so that the high standards of the product can be maintained.

Besides this, diamond power is another form of this precious stone that is also used for polishing requirements. This coarse powder is further grinded finely to make it soft so that it can easily be used on different surfaces. The process that is used for crushing diamonds into powdered form is known as micronization. In this procedure, gas and special fluids are used as agents to break down molecules into minute particles. It is a complex process, the result of which comes as equal sized pieces.

The various industrial roles of diamonds are significant in every major sector. The flexibility offered by the industrial diamonds enables them to be used in diverse applications. Diamonds have exceptional hardness and superior thermal properties, which can be used suitably in many industrial processes.

Diamond Dressers- Used Widely as Surface Grinders

Many of us are not aware about additional usage of diamond other than employing it for making jewelry. This fact might surprise some of you that diamonds are used widely in industries for making surface grinders to use them as diamond dressers. A dresser is used generally for shaping the edges of metal blades and other grinding machine. The sole purpose of employing these gadgets is to provide a sharp cut to the surface on which it is used. With such a cut, the appearance of an element gets an attractive look. These tools are used both for grinding wheels and for jewelry items made up of diamond. Moreover, the speed of such dressers is generally more than other conventional tools used for the same purposes. Hence, it is one of the reasons of popularity of such gadgets in the industry.

Diamonds in its diverse forms is used as abrasive for performing different sharpening works. Diamond powder is used mostly for this purpose. It is made by crushing diamonds into small pieces known as microns. This process as a whole is known as micronization. This process is a tough industrial process, which starts when a special kind of liquid is mixed with some of the gases to break down the molecules of diamonds into fine pieces. This process finely delivers a fine crush powder, which is used further upon some of the gadgets to polish their surfaces. The particles obtained by this process can be coarse or fine in nature. The amount of pressure used for performing the task determines the final product. More to this, the particle used for obtaining the dust also determines for the consistency of the product finally achieved. However, size and uniformity are important as it is used as a super abrasive agent for cutting different metallic substances.

Besides this, diamond paste is another form of diamond that is used in precise applications. To get this paste, diamonds are crushed into fine particles and are mixed with some special agents to convert it into adhesive form. To make this paste, diamond is crushed finely. After this process, it is converted into glue like form. To fill this glue like substance, syringe is used. Syringe is used to give fine shape to a surface; hence, the amount of adhesive is needed to be controlled so that it can easily be used in precise application performed in industries.

Diamond Paste and Dressers - Useful Industrial Tools

Diamond is one of the most expensive stones, used widely for making jewelry. Ornaments made from this precious stone are much costlier and the piece of jewel worn emits shine, which looks great. The shine that is emitted by this stone comes because of polishing this stone with diamond dressers. These are the industrial tools used to sharpen different dressing devices. The diamond when mined comes in two specifications. Diamonds having a proper specification is employed for making jewelry. On the other hand, the stones that fail to meet the characteristics and measurement required are sent to industries for manufacturing different types of industrial tools from it. These stones are then processed further to make tools, which are used for cutting and sharpening metal and other substances. The cut, which a diamond tool provides is much sharper and require less manual effort.

Dressing tools can be either a single point or a multiple point tool. A single point tool is the most commonly used device in industries. They are very versatile and can be used both for truing and for dressing a grinding wheel. This tool is available in different sizes depending upon the hardness of the grinding wheel. On the other hand, multiple dressers have a longer life than single point dresser. Hence, it is used mostly in the industries.

Besides this, diamond paste is another substance, obtained from mined diamond and used for polishing different substances. When the mining process starts, diamond comes as a raw material. It is further processed to make either tools or jewelry. Moreover, the paste is made when diamond is crushed finely. After this process, it is converted into adhesive form. Some special agents, other than water, are used to convert it into glue like form. This paste is then filled in syringe to use in precise applications. Syringe is used so that the material filled can easily be used in different applications. Moreover, it is very important to control the amount of paste of filled substance to use it for sharpening work; hence, the process of polishing any substance using this material is performed carefully.

Diamond powder on the other hand, is made by crushing diamond into very tiny pieces known as microns. The process employed for getting powder from this stone is known as micronization. This is a complex industrial process that starts with breaking down diamond molecules into small pieces. By employing this process, finely crushed diamond is obtained.

Ways to find diamond jewellery with great offers (singhania gautam)

In olden days, gold and diamond jewellery were purchased only from known jewellers, locally. The jewellers used to maintain great rapport with their clientele that they knew them personally by their names. Whatever the jeweler or craftsman created and designed were bought by the buyers as they did not have much choice. But now, the scenario is totally different. You simply have to browse through the collection of available items and then choose them based on your needs and budget. All details about the jewellery piece including its design, weight, size, stones included and so on is available online for you to check and decide. Moreover, these online stores provide you with items along with various offers to benefit you monetarily.

To find such stores, you have to search for the jewellery items with offers on the webpage and the search engines will do the rest of the job for you. You will be amazed to see the exhaustive list of jewellery marts providing offers. Your job is to pick online jewellery store that sells jewellery within your budget and preference. Then, the next step is to select items you like from the collection. Once done, details of each item should be scrutinized thoroughly so as to select the best. For instance, if you are planning to buy diamond jewellery featuring 7 stones, you can get details of the items that match your criteria from the selected online e-marts for doing comparison. Study each and every detail including the type of stone used, taxes levied, making charges, wastage and total cost. While buying gold jewellery check its purity and weight, whereas for diamond jewellery find out how much gold is used and the number of diamonds used in it separately to know if the piece is rightly priced or not.

With the available details, make a chart for easy and quick viewing. Compare each aspect separately. For instance, check the diamond cost, tax, wastage and so on and find out which store offers the best possible rates among the listed ones. Then find out why they are priced so high or low. This will give you an insight into the pricing of the gold or diamond jewellery. The next action plan is to contact online stores and start negotiating the deal. In this stage you have to eliminate stores that provide less quality items and those who charge more additional costs. Narrow down the list to 2 or 3 and then follow your instincts and desires to select items with great offers. Purchasing jewellery online is really a risky business. Make sure you check the quality of the items you wish to purchase.

Exhibition - Mary Hallam Pearse and Julia V. Turner

We recently became aware of a jewelry exhibition
currently showing at Taboo Studio.
"Fresh Air” is running from
February 11 – March 25, 2011.

"Fresh Air" is a contemporary jewelry art show
featuring new work by eight artists (several of whom
we have previously seen on this blog).
JEWELRY ARTISTS in this exhibition include:
Brooke Battles, Joanna Gollberg, Christy Klug,
Brigid O’Hanrahan, Mary Hallam Pearse,
Ingrid Psuty, Claire Sanford, and Julia V. Turner.

Let's take a look at some examples of the one-of-a-kind
jewelry included in this exhibition.

We find the brooches made by
Mary Hallam Pearse
to be rather exciting and different.
She works with found images and prints
them on thin sheets of aluminum
then incorporates materials such as
sterling silver and diamonds to
create pieces that are unique.
This brooch called "Diamond Tears"
is a real attention getter.

And this piece is called "Three Words."
Truly eye catching.

Another artist we admire in this
exhibition is Julia V. Turner.
She is showing a series of
fascinating pendants that feature distressed wood.

This piece is called "Blue Migration Pendant."
In this piece the unspecified type of wood
has been burned and stained.
It’s enclosed by steel and meticulously
decorated with Japanese glass beads.

Here's another intriguing example of this artist's work.
This pendant is called "Orange Scatter"- and
here again we see wood that has been
burned and stained, and decorated
with Japanese glass beads.

We'd love to see these pieces in person.
If you get the opportunity to attend this exhibit
let us know your thoughts and impressions
of the jewelry on view.

Enjoy the exhibit!

Randi Chervitz Jewelry

We admire jewelry that explores fiber
techniques in metal.
Jewelry created by Randi Chervitz
features fine-gauge sterling silver and
gold wire crocheted into the design,
transforming metal into a sense of fabric.
The linear fabricated framework of each piece
blends flawlessly with the
curvaceous, lacy needlework of the wire.

We appreciate her fine metalsmithing skills,
delicate manipulation of fine metal wires, and
very selective choice of gemstones.

The repetitive, intricate, complex designs are stunning.
This cuff is a wonderful example of her work.
It's called "18K Wide Bamboo Cuff with 12 Diamonds,"
and features hand-crocheted yellow gold wire
with hand-set diamonds.

We also love this ring called
18K Wide Bamboo Ring with 5 Diamonds."
It has movement and intrigue.

These sweet little numbers feel delicate yet structured.
They're called,
"Skinny Rectangle Earrings."

And this solid, chunky square platform
makes a beautiful frame for a crocheted
nesting of pearls.
This one is named, "Square Top Ring," and
features a delightful assortment of freshwater pearls.

Here's another example of the underlying structure
that is a hallmark of this artist's work.
Called, "Grid Pin/Pendant," the hand-crocheted
silver wire clearly provides a lacy softness to contrast
with the rigid grid structure.

Mixing techniques from multiple disciplines
allows an artist's imagination to expand.

This artist's work delights us for her ingenuity
and original designs.
The effects are fabulous.

Enjoy!

Diana Widman Jewelry

Jewelry created by Diana Widman
evokes a sense of movement and a
great deal of texture. Of all her styles
of work, our favorites revolve around
her Linen Collection – a collection
of fabricated jewelry that actually has
the look of rippled fabric.

With a background in printmaking
and bookbinding, Diana has long held
a love for paper and fabric, as well as
the tools and processes one uses
 to work with them.

So, it’s understandable that when she
discovered metalsmithing, her passion for
paper and fabric would become extremely
evident in her metal work.
By using a technique such as fold forming
she creates rippling surfaces and
roughened textures that look like undulating,
silky fabrics. It's jewelry that provides
 a sense of movement and
an impression of texture.

Here are a few examples
of her work.
This cuff is made with sterling silver.

Here we see a
14KT yellow gold cuff set with diamond accents.

These earrings are made from 18KT green gold
 with diamond accents.

We are inspired by artists who develop work
based on the cross-pollination of ideas
and techniques.
Something new and different emerges
from these fascinating efforts.
In this instance, by making hard metal
 look like soft fabric
we cross a threshold with the artist
into a new realm of beauty,
style and discovery.

Enjoy!

Davina Romansky Jewelry

Jewelry made with mixed metals
sometimes cause mixed reactions -
both metallurgically and emotionally.

Davina Romansky creates jewelry
by mixing metals, precious gems,
and other items of interest.

Starting with natural shapes, many organic in style,
the combination of metals creates energy
within each piece.
Simple pieces become more layered
and dense. They seem to create more energy.
We always have a positive reaction
when we see it.

Here is a piece called Silver and Gold Bangle
that includes black diamonds.

This ring is called Cactus Pearl - it's made with
copper, silver, and a pearl.

Our favorite piece is her
Caged Feathers Necklace.
Made with fine and sterling silver wire,
it features an abundance of Peacock Feathers.

We are captivated by her asymmetrical designs
that meander and build upon themselves.
They inspire our own strong, positive reactions
and we enjoy that aspect of wearing
handcrafted jewelry.

What do you think?
Are you inspired by this work?
We'd love to know.

Brooke Battles Jewelry

We love the chunky boxy-ness of the jewelry created by Brooke Battles. Each combination of geometric shapes seems like little pieces of wearable modern sculpture.  These two pieces are currently on display at Taboo Studio in San Diego, California.

This mesmerizing piece is called "Pearl Couple Pendant."

Brooke's work evokes a strong sense of strength and forcefulness. This phenomenal ring is
called "Flower Ring with Raw Diamond."

We'd be happy to wear these pieces on days when we want to feel strong, vibrant, and decisive.
Our sense of mastery and confidence increases whenever we see Brooke's work. Makes us
want to wear some sculpture today.
